Getting Started

Welcome to Knit One Book Too! The site was born out of discussions with Annie, a fellow knitblogger - it seems we all love books as much as we love to knit! Why not have a place for us all to gather to talk about those books we love so much - and maybe knit some while we're at it.

That said, you don't have to be a knitter to join in the fun. All are welcome as long as you love books and don't mind some yarn talk thrown in the mix.

In order to post, you need to have a username and password. Head on over here if you don't already have one.

Below are various suggestions for posting. If you have any questions, or suggestions, feel free to leave a comment anywhere you like!

Thank you.
Best,

Book Discussions

The formal book discussions, i.e. book group, will meet on the last Monday of the month. An entry will be posted by the moderator which will suggest some talking points about the book. You can either comment to that entry, or post your own entries.

In the interim before the formal discussion begins, please feel encouraged to post about the book, or the author, or anything relating to the book. (For instance, the January 2005 book deals with the blurring of fact and fiction - if you wanted to post something about the history of the time, etc., that would be quite appropriate.)

Also post your progress as you read the book. Are you loving it? Are you hating it? Finding it slow? Can't put it down? Let us know! But please, try not to give away plot points until the final discussion time. Don't give away any endings!

Choosing Books

Let's try to stay two books ahead. Around the time of the final discussion period, I will post a poll to decide which book should be read for the month after next. (Whew! That's confusing. Basically, when we end in January, we'll pick a book for March, and so on.) I will post a solicitation for titles on the main page, and the poll will appear there as well.

Book Reviews

Go to town!

The book review section is for you to post any and all recommendations you may have. Post your favorites, the ones you want to know more about, the authors you stalk. Anything goes whether it be knitty tomes, or made-up stuff, or stuff that's real but you can't believe!

Right now there are three categories - Knitting Books, Fiction and Non-Fiction. Let me know if you think we need more. Please remember to choose one when posting a review.

Also, when linking to book titles, please try to link through Powell's Book Store. There are search engines on each blog page for your convenience. Let's help the independents! Thank you!

Technical Stuff

Basically, you have posting priviliges. If you would like to moderate a discussion, email me and we can work something out. When posting images, please, please try to host it on your own server. The databases for these blogs take up a lot of space. If you absolutely need to post an image and don't have a place to host it, email me and we'll see what we can do.

I'd also ask, when posting images, if you could use the class="img" (for instance, [img class="img" src=image url here]). It makes them look so nice and clean....

A reminder: DO NOT STEAL BANDWIDTH. As I said, if you can't host an image on your own server, let me know and we'll work something out. If you don't understand what it means to steal bandwidth, read here. If you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to let me know.

Please remember....

When creating a new entry, in order for it to show up on the page, you need to change the setting to PUBLISH, from the default which is DRAFT. If you leave it at draft, it won't appear.

Please feel free to comment if you have questions. Thank you.
