Required Reading Deja Vu!

After I left College I never imagined I'd again embrace "required reading", but I guess I've matured. (Say it isn't so!) But, I'm very happy to have found this group and look forward to discussing 2 of my great loves - reading and knitting. I'm just coming out of a "Potter Exile". Everything in life stopped while I devoured book 6. And I also just finished "Endurance" by Alfred Lansing. Excellent story! I swear I could *taste* the seal blubber while reading the book.

A belated self-intro

I joined up in late April and have had very little time to spend here ever since! Sorry about that.

I'm a knitter, and I love to read. I live in NYC, the borough of Queens, and escort my 8yo dd every weekday to Manhattan where she attends a public school for musically gifted children. I do a lot of knitting and reading on the subway.

I'm in the middle of reading L. M. Krauss' The Physics of Star Trek and recently finished Cod by Mark Kurlansky. Niffenegger's The Time Traveler's Wife is in my pile of books to read, but alas, I doubt I'll be finished with it by Monday.

I keep a blog/website about my dd here: Kate's Progress
an on-line knitting album here: Patti's Knitting Album
and a knitting and personal blog here: The Dumping Ground

I'm looking forward to participating in discussions and reading new books with you all!

Yet another new member

Joined a couple of weeks ago, but I've been away. I'm a 26 year old knitter in South Jersey. My obsessions happen to be photography, knitting, reading, and writing. I read Time Traveler's when it first came out, so I'm glad to see I finally have others to discuss it with. If you want to drop me a line, then feel free to drop me a line at my knitting blog: knitfix.blogspot.com

and another new member

Hey all! My name is Laura and I'm an 18-year-old knitter from Boston, MA. I am also a HUGE bookworm so this is the perfect place for me! I just finished reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt literally moments ago (funny to see her already mentioned)... I adore erudite New England novels like that.
When I'm not knitting, I'm probably sitting in front of the computer, writing, or watching a film-- I'm a huge movie buff and I hope to be working in the film industry someday.
I just started a knitting/craft blog at http://amused.likeasiren.com. Come visit!

Hi from another new member

Hi everyone, my name is *Kim* and I must say I love my little stars. I love to read and I love to knit, so I guess this will be a good place for me to hang out! I've just finished a book called "How I Paid for College" by Marc Acito. It was hysterical! Next on my list is "The Forsyte Saga". Two of my favorite books from 2004 were "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell" and "Shadow of the Wind". I'll stop now and look forward to meeting everyone in the "Jonathan Strange" discussion!

Another Heather, BLTN

Hi everyone, I wanted to introduce myself. I love to read! I just finished Patricia Cornwell's newest book 'Trace', and now I'm reading Henry James' 'The Golden Bowl'. My bookshelf is a little ecclectic. I like mysteries and dramas, and I really like like genre of magical realism (Marquez). Southern writers like Donna Tartt are ... fantastic. I enjoy anything that is well written, otherwise I'll just skim through a story for plot. I have a special place in my heart for British Lit. I heart Joseph Conrad and any Bronte.
I love New Orleans, but will be leaving it soon, and I've been knitting steadily for about a year. Before that I was knitting in fits and starts, and crocheting blankets seemed to be as much of as a challenge as I wanted. I love a new knitting book, and there are so many great ones!!
I think this is a great forum, and I'm excited to read everyone's great book finds!

Another BLTN

Better late than never person. My name is Samantha and I have been knitting again for about a year. I learned as a child, but like most children quickly put it down. I have always been a voracious reader, but that has slowed a bit with knitting. Now I find myself relying on audio books for my fiction fix. (I'm an academic so none of my work books make audible.com LOL). I am looking forward to the Strange book. I bought it several months ago and I figure that this is a good way to get me to read it! I'm looking forward to talking to all of you about it.

Hello from Cambridge, Ontario

Hi all,
I'm really excited to be joining in on the next discussion! I've started listening to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time on CD while I knit. It's the first time I've tried a book on CD. For us knitting folk too clumsy to balance an open book along with our knitting on our laps it's real handy.
Reading and knitting are two of my passions. I've been knitting all my life but never actually finished making anything other than socks and mitts. Now I have a baby sweater to brag about (that I'm supposed to be giving away but I think I'm gonna keep it). I'm working on self patterning socks right now, a poncho and a hot water bottle cover. I'm really branching out now! I've also been reading all my life and have worked in libraries (city and primary school), once I begin my teaching career I'd like to take some additional classes to become a primary school teacher-librarian.
And also: I'm 26, I live with my wonderful partner London and our dog Jasper, I haven't seen a real Canadian winter in 2 years, I'm a Virgo and I can't wait to chat with everyone!
Happy knitting :)

Saying hi!

Just stopping in and saying hi! I am Seanna Lea, and am going to be married in a little over a month. I like to knit lace mostly, but recently bought Knit Socks (the one shaped like a sock). I hope to give that a good try soon.

Currently, I am reading The Gnostic Gospels by Elaine Pagels, which is about the early history of the Christian Church. Very interesting.

HI All

Hi there. I just wanted to say hello and quickly introduce myself. My name is Heather and I'm currently a stay at home mom to 2 beautiful and obnoxious little girls in Washington state. I've just recently starting knitting again and am having a great time making things for my little girls. I LOVE to read and knit so I'm super excited to have found a place that I can do both, not at the same time though!!! I've noticed my IQ slowly decreasing since I had kids so I'm hoping this will help me get it together a little! Look forward to chatting with all of you! :)

Better Late than Never?

Hello my fellow knitters and readers!
I was unable to read the January selection, and I have already read the February selection, so I am ready to start the discussions! Can't wait to hear what everyone thinks about this fascinating book.

A short introduction for those who do not know me: My name is Lauren, and I often go by Lolly in the knitblog world. I live in Maryland, and have a great husband, two adorable pups, two kitties, and lots of fish. It is a zoo :)

I am in grad school studying Library Science and History, and I currently work as an archivist. When I finish school, I will begin my career as a Special Collections Librarian... so you can see why this book club is perfect for me: books are so dear to me! I have enjoyed reading all of my life, and until I took up knitting, it is what I did with ALL of my spare time. Now they have to share :) I began knitting in November 2003, and you can see my adventures over at my blog, http://lollygirl.com/blog.

Lately, I find myself really enjoying more non-fiction, but I always enjoy a little get away, and fiction provides that. I have read so many books, and became really active in a great online community called Bookcrossing (www.bookcrossing.com) where I found so many books that I did not even know existed. If you have the time to devote to it, it is an amazing site!

Looking forward to great times with all of you. Take care!
